Education is the Supreme Wealth

विद्या सर्वश्रेष्ठ धन है।

न चौरहार्यं न च राजहार्यं न भ्रातृभाज्यं न च भारकारि । 

व्यये कृते वर्द्धत एव नित्यं विद्याधनं सर्वधनप्रधानम् ॥

 Sarvshreshth Dhan

Na chauraharyan,

Na ch rajaharyan,

Na bhratrabhajyan,

Na ch bharkari.

Vyaye krite varddhat,

Ev nityam vidyadhanan,

Sarvadhanpradhanam.

शब्दश: अर्थ

न Na - नहीं (Not)

चौरहार्यं Chauraharyan - चोर जिसे चुरा सकता है (Something a Thief could Steel)

च Ch- और (And)

राजहार्यं Rajaharyan - राजा जिसे छीन सके (Something a King can Take Away)

भ्रातृभाज्यं Bhratrabhajyan - जिसे भाइयों में बाँटा जा सके (That which can be divided among brothers)

भारकारि Bharkari - भार/बोझ बनना (To Become a Burden)

व्यये Vyaye - खर्च (Spend/Expenditure)

कृते krite - करने से (By Doing)

वर्द्धत/वर्धते Varddhat- वृद्धि होना/बढ़ना (To Increase/Grow)

एव Ev - और (And)

नित्यं  Nityam - हमेशा/प्रतिदिन (Always/Daily)

विद्याधनम् Vidyadhanan - विद्या/ज्ञान का धन (The Wealth of Knowledge)

सर्वधनप्रधानम् Sarvadhanpradhanam - सभी धनों में प्रधान/श्रेष्ठ (The Foremost/Supreme among all forms of Wealth)

अर्थ

विद्या (ज्ञान) एक ऐसा धन है जिसे न तो चोर चुरा सकते हैं, न राजा छीन सकता है, न भाई बांट सकते हैं और न ही यह बोझ बनता है। खर्च करने पर यह बढ़ता है। और विद्या का धन सभी धन में सबसे श्रेष्ठ है।

व्याख्या

यह श्लोक विद्या (ज्ञान) की महत्ता के बारे में है। अन्य धन जैसे धन-दौलत, संपत्ति आदि चोरी हो सकते हैं, छिन सकते हैं, बंट सकते हैं, लेकिन विद्या का धन न कोई चुरा सकता है, न छीन सकता है, न बांट सकता है। विद्या जितनी बांटी जाती है, उतनी ही बढ़ती जाती है। इसलिए विद्या को सर्वश्रेष्ठ धन माना गया है।

Meaning

Knowledge is a form of wealth that cannot be stolen by thieves, seized by a king, or divided among brothers, nor does it become a burden. It increases when spent (shared). Indeed, the wealth of knowledge is the greatest of all forms of wealth.

Description

This verse highlights the significance of knowledge (Education). While other forms of wealth—such as money and property—can be stolen, seized, or divided, the wealth of knowledge cannot be taken away or partitioned by anyone. The more knowledge is shared, the more it grows. Therefore, knowledge is considered the supreme wealth. 

Education extends beyond earning academic degrees. It can be achieved through self-directed learning activities such as listening to music, watching films or television programs, participating in discussions on various topics, and reading books, magazines, and newspapers. Reading is the most effective way to gain knowledge and education.
